[국제]EU expands arms aid to Ukraine, pushes for ban on Russian oil imports

European Union and EU foreign ministers strongly condemn Russia’s war crimes and agreed to expand arms aid to Ukraine.

They also decided to pursue a plan to ban imports of Russian oil.

The EU held a meeting of member foreign ministers in Luxembourg and decided to inject an additional 500 million euros and 670 billion won from the European Peace Credit Fund to provide additional arms to Ukraine.

The ban on oil imports from Russia could not be reached because some member countries demanded a suspend, but it is likely that they will seek to include it in the next sanctions package.

High Representative Borrell explained that he was considering everything, including a ban on Russia’s oil and gas imports.

Some member states have pointed out that an implementation period is needed to secure supplies elsewhere and to quell domestic unrest before the oil import ban is imposed.

The EU adopted the 5th sanctions against Russia on the 8th, including a ban on the import of Russian coal, and the EU import of Russian coal will be banned from August.
