[국제]”China investigates Micron, a US semiconductor company…sending a warning to Korea”

China’s investigation of Micron Technology, the largest memory semiconductor producer in the US, might be a warning to South Korea, an expert said.

Wang Lifu, an analyst at ICTWise, a semiconductor research firm in Shanghai, told the South China Morning Post that the investigation began at a time when the Chinese semiconductor market was under siege by an alliance led by the United States.

Analyst Wang said, “I think South Korea will pay particular attention to this investigation,” and pointed out that it is a Chinese warning to Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, which still have semiconductor manufacturing facilities in China, not to follow the actions of the United States.

He added that the warning also applies to the Netherlands, which has joined US export controls.

Earlier, on the 31st of last month, the Internet Security Judgment Office under China’s National Internet Information Office announced that it would conduct an Internet security review of Micron’s products sold in China.

The reason for this is “to ensure the safety of the supply chain of critical information infrastructure, to prevent latent product problems from causing Internet security risks, and to protect national security,” the Chinese government explained.

This is the first time China has conducted a cybersecurity review of a foreign semiconductor company.

In response, analyst Wang pointed out that “the Chinese government believes that Micron pushed the US sanctions once morest China from behind.”

The newspaper added that following US President Joe Biden signed a bill to foster domestic semiconductors in August of last year, Micron is known to have increased lobbying expenses along with other US companies.
