Last year, videos of illegally filmed hacking of home wall pads installed in each house were circulated on a specific web site, causing many people to panic.
Recently, the government conducted a fact-finding survey, and it was found that the security management of public PCs, which could be a way for wall pad hacking, was very poor.

This is a post posted on an online community in November of last year.
Hundreds of videos showing the interior of someone’s house and even the name of a specific apartment complex are written on it.
Videos that were illegally filmed by hacking a home wall pad were distributed through the so-called ‘dark web’ site, which can only be accessed through a specific program.
How could this be possible?
The wall pads in each house share one communication network, so even if a hacker hacked into one house, he could easily look into other furniture.

As concerns grew that a security device could become a passageway for privacy, the government launched an investigation into the status of ‘home networks’, including wall pads.
I looked into 20 apartment complexes across the country, and found that the passwords of the public network management PCs in most of the complexes were either the same as the initial settings or a simple combination of numbers.
In addition, overall security management was found to be insufficient, such as not updating the latest security updates or using an operating system that has already ended support.

Cases of violating server installation standards were also discovered.
Most of the server rooms had insufficient locking devices or no CCTV installed, and in some cases, equipment that should be in the communication plumbing room was installed in the disaster prevention room along with a fire extinguisher.
In order to minimize hacking damage for apartments built from this month, the government has required separate wall pad communication networks by household.
It also urged administrators to regularly identify security vulnerabilities and change public PC passwords frequently.
However, as it is not a fundamental measure, there are voices that a more systematic security maintenance system is needed.
