On the 12th, prosecutors seized and searched the office and home of Democratic Party lawmaker Yoon Kwan-seok and Lee Seong-man. Prosecutors captured the circumstances in which Rep. Yoon received 60 million won from the Korea Audit Association head Kang Rae-gu through former Vice President Lee Jung-geun and delivered it to more than 10 lawmakers ahead of the Democratic Party National Convention in May 2021. Separately, Rep. Lee is suspected of distributing 9 million won to the camp officials of candidate Song Young-gil at the time in collusion with Mr. Kang and others. Prosecutors believe that a total of 94 million won was distributed including this. At the time of the party convention, all of them helped with the election campaign in candidate Song’s camp. Candidate Song was elected as the party’s representative, beating the second-place candidate by a margin of 0.59 percentage points. If it is true that money and valuables were scattered during this process, it is a serious problem that undermines the legitimacy of the election. This is also a crime in violation of the Political Party Act, which prohibits exchanging money and other valuables in the party presidential race. In 2008, candidate Park Hee-tae was sentenced to 1 year in prison for giving 3 million won to an incumbent lawmaker at the Grand National Party Convention.
