In the east of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia, exceptionally strong storms with torrential rain and stronger gusts of wind threatened on Friday, meteorologists said. The alert ended at 8:00 p.m. Firefighters went to three dozen events in the Olomouc Region on Friday afternoon due to heavy rain, for example pumping rainwater and removing fallen trees. On Thursday afternoon, the storms were extremely strong, especially in the south of Bohemia. In Vimperska, they measured a total of more than one hundred and forty millimeters of precipitation.

On Friday, the strongest storms were located in Olomouc, according to meteorologists, they slowly progressed in an easterly direction. But they also drew attention to the fact that storms are local and will not occur everywhere within the warning area.

Firefighters in Olomouc were pumping rainwater and removing fallen trees, they also went into the field in Prostějovsk and Jesenice. “In some places, we deployed floating pumps to mitigate the effects of the heavy rain, in most cases the water subsided naturally after a while. The storms were accompanied by strong winds, which also caused trees to fall. There are now dozens of professional and volunteer firefighters in the field,” said fire department spokesman Zdeněk Hošák in the early evening. Firefighters prepared sandbags as a precaution, which they wanted to use in the construction of flood defenses if necessary.

Meteorologists canceled the previous warning against heavy rain, which applied especially to the Jizerské hory and Krkonoše mountains. “The area of expected high totals has moved north out of our territory,” they said.

The storm warning included the entire Pardubice region, part of the Vysočina and Hradec Králové regions, as well as all of Silesia and Moravia with the exception of Znojmo. It was valid from 13:00 to 20:00. “Thunderstorms will occur in places, occasionally they can be strong. They will be accompanied by short-term intense rain with totals of around thirty millimeters and stronger wind gusts. Storms will move in an easterly direction and will weaken rapidly in the evening,” meteorologists said on the X network.
