Sporting Charleroi’s 120th Anniversary Tifo: A Spectacle to Remember
Alright, folks. Gather round as we dive into a celebration thatâs been 120 years in the making! No, not a family reunion where Uncle Dave thinks heâs still the life of the partyâthis is the 120th anniversary of Sporting Charleroi! Yes, thatâs right; the club thatâs been kicking about since 1904 has decided to throw a bash worthy of its age. And when I say âbashâ, I mean a massive display of passionâhello, tifo! #CHAOHL might need a new hashtag: #TifoGoneWild!
Imagine, if you will, two entire stands dedicated to showcasing a magnificent tifo ahead of the match against OHL. Itâs like preparing a three-course meal for your in-laws but only being able to serve them a bowl of instant noodles. They were aiming high with this one! Not just a mere banner saying âHappy Birthdayâ while the players think their main job is to dodge flaresâno, this was proper choreography, folks!
On that fine Saturday, October 26, letting people know about the anniversary was just part of the plan. The club recognized that they needed something special, something beyond the usual âLetâs cheer, shall we?â Enter Nicolas Penneteau, the guest of honorâbecause, obviously, who doesnât want a former goalkeeper in their corner during the marathon of festivities? Kicking things off with flair and signing memorabilia before the match is like getting a celebrity chef to flip burgers at your BBQ. Sure, they make it look easy, but thereâs always a chance the flames will reach for the sky!
Now back to the real star of the showâthe tifo. The setup was ambitious, but as you know with great ambition comes great risk (and occasionally, great embarrassment). The artwork was meant to greet the players in a crescendo of colors and coordinated passion. And just as the players were about to enter the pitchâPOOF! It held up for a few memorable minutes before it flopped like a bad magicianâs trick. Talk about a dramatic twist! Instead, we got a backup black-and-white display which, bless it, was still doing its best to cheer everyone on. Cue the golf claps!

Was it a tifo ever made for an anniversary, you ask? Certainly notâthe expectations were sky high and then perhaps sunk lower than the last seasonâs prediction for a team that forgot how to win. Yet here we are, celebrating the spectacle, the determination, and the utterly chaotic beauty of football culture.
Sporting Charleroi had planned a special tifo for the 120th anniversary of the club, this Saturday against OHL. One of the most ambitious in the club’s history, which called for two full stands!
Sporting Charleroi is celebrating its 120th anniversary this year, and had planned activities in this honor for the match this Saturday, October 26. For the occasion, Nicolas Penneteau was the guest of honor and kicked off the event after a signing session at the Mambourg shop.
But before kick-off, T3 and T4 at the Pays de Charleroi stadium above all offered a magnificent tifo in two parts, which took a little time to get set up but is certainly one of the most demanding of the history of the club.
The tifo held in place for a few minutes, unfortunately not, as was planned, until the players entered the pitch. A second tifo composed of black and white sheets then took over, before the match began.
