[집중취재M] Where did all this water come from? A drought has caused murderous torrential rains

Where did this massive rain that flooded Pakistan like this come from?

To talk regarding that, we have to look at Europe and China first.

These are places where the water is disappearing right now, let’s see the report by Hyun In-ah first, and then go straight to the Disaster Broadcasting Center.

The Autobahn Rhine on the water is drying up.

Sandbars are exposed everywhere, and hundreds of cargo ships operate to avoid the sandbars.

When the water becomes shallow, the ship needs to be lightened, and large cargo ships have reduced their load by a quarter of the usual.

Four ships were needed to carry the same amount, so the fare more than tripled.

The Po River Basin is a granary through which the longest river in Italy passes.

The river’s water is reduced to one-tenth of the usual, and people walk in the middle of the river.

Salty seawater rushed into the empty spot of the river.

Paddy fields that produce rice, the raw material for risotto, are drying out and suffering from salt damage.

It was predicted that 60% of grain production would decrease, and 30% of shellfish, a raw material for vongole pasta, also died due to high salt and high temperature.

“Record heat waves this summer in the UK, France and Germany. River levels across Europe were also at record lows. This is very unusual.”

Poyang Lake, China’s largest freshwater lake, on the banks of the Yangtze River has been exposed.

The water marks on the bottom of the lake appeared like tree roots.

The scorching sun cracked the floor like a turtle’s back, turning it into a desert.

The temple in the middle of the lake is exposed out of the water and can be reached on foot.

The night view of the city center, which is one of Shanghai’s main attractions, has also disappeared.

This is because of the severe power shortage that hit China along with the drought.

Southern China relies on hydropower for three-quarters of its electricity, but the Yangtze River has dried up.

The utilization rate of hydroelectric power plants has been cut in half, and major companies around the world, such as Volkswagen, Toyota, and Foxconn, have stopped operating their plants or reduced production.

The Chinese authorities are trying to make rain with artificial rainfall technology, but to no avail.
