[정치]South Korea-Canada summit in a while… Watching the waves after clarification of ‘remarks of a good person’

[앵커]

President Yoon Seok-yeol, who is continuing his tour of the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada, will hold a summit meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau this morning from our point of view.

It is the last itinerary of this tour, and key mineral supply chains and the latest scientific and technological cooperation are the main agenda items.

Controversy is still there following President Yoon’s clarification of profane remarks, but the presidential office has not made an additional position and is keeping an eye on the ripples.

I moved from Toronto, Canada to Ottawa. Are there any talks being held there?

[기자]

That’s right.

About an hour ago, the Air Force Unit 1, aboard President Yoon Seok-yeol and his wife, arrived at Ottawa Airport.

The Korea-Canada summit will be held in the followingnoon of the 23rd local time and this morning according to our time in search of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, followed by a joint press conference.

The main agendas include supply chain cooperation for Canada’s abundant core minerals used in batteries, and scientific and technological cooperation with Canada, which is leading in high-tech industries such as artificial intelligence.

In a written interview with Canadian media ahead of the summit, President Yoon said that he expects to expand trade in the high-tech industry through key mineral supply chain cooperation on the summit’s priorities.

At the same time, he said he is very interested in increasing the number of liquefied natural gas and LNG suppliers in Canada.

Regarding China’s expanding influence in the Indo-Pacific region, he explained that it is important for China to fulfill its responsibilities as a member of the international community and contribute to peace and prosperity in the Intai region.

This is the first time for President Yoon to personally visit the other country and hold an official summit.

After the summit, YTN will broadcast the joint press conference of the two leaders live.

With this meeting, President Yoon’s tour schedule will be concluded, but the impact of profanity remarks is not small to talk regarding the results of the tour.

[기자]

The presidential office aggressively refuted 14 hours following President Yoon’s profane remarks were made public.

The first target was not the US Congress, but our opposition party.

And he claimed that he said “if you blow it, not Biden,” and that it was woven and distorted as if he was mocking the allies in 1970.

It is interpreted as an explanation that it was not a denigration towards the US Congress and President Biden, and it is interpreted as a diplomatic risk.

The presidential office said that it was an explanation that came out with confidence through professional voice analysis and confirmation from the president himself, but

Controversy is further amplified by remarks that he did not explain or apologize for using profanity and that he was targeting the opposition.

First of all, the presidential office has not made any further positions or explanations until a day following the official briefing.

It seems that they are considering a countermeasure while keeping an eye on the waves, but following finishing the tour schedule with the Korea-Canada summit, I am interested in whether to have an in-flight meeting on the way back home, or if so, whether to reveal the relevant position.
