As the COVID-19 omicron mutation became the dominant species, more than 7,000 confirmed cases nationwide by 9 pm on the 24th.
According to the quarantine authorities, a total of 7437 people tested positive for COVID-19 in 17 cities and provinces across the country from 00:00 to 9pm on the same day.
As there is still time until midnight, when the counting ends, the number of new cases to be announced on the 25th is expected to record an all-time high. The highest number of new confirmed cases so far was 7848 on the 15th of last month.
Looking at the recent trend in the number of confirmed cases, the number of new confirmed cases as of 00:00 on the 25th is likely to record 9,000 for the first time since the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in Korea on January 20, 2020.
By 9 p.m. that day, the count was 1,762 more than the count at the same time the day before.
Last week (17th-23rd), the detection rate of domestic Omicron mutation was 50.3%, confirming that Omicron has become the dominant species in Korea as well.
