According to local governments, including Seoul, the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in 17 cities and provinces across the country from 0 am to 9 pm that day was 347,712. This is 2,274 more than the all-time record of 342,438, which was announced as of 00:00 on the 9th.
As there is still time until midnight, when the counting ends, the number of new confirmed cases to be announced on the 12th is expected to increase even more, exceeding 350,000.
The government predicts that the Omicron epidemic will peak next week, and the weekly average daily number of confirmed cases will be between 295,000 and 372,000.
As of 9 p.m. that day, there were 192,141 (55.7%) new confirmed cases in the metropolitan area and 152,571 (44.3%) in non-metropolitan areas. In Gyeonggi Province (95,100 people), for the first time, more than 90,000 confirmed cases were reported.
