Heavy snowfall and a cold wave are coming to the Jeju area where the cold has subsided ahead of the weekend.
The Jeju Regional Meteorological Administration predicted that from the 22nd to the 24th, the temperature would drop significantly as a cold wind blows with a lot of snow in Jeju Island.
The expected snowfall is more than 50cm in many mountainous areas and more than 30cm in many places in the middle and mountainous areas. In the coastal area, it is expected that 5 to 15 cm of snow will accumulate, mainly in the southern and eastern parts of the country.
There is a high possibility that a heavy snow warning will be announced in the mountains between dawn and morning on the 22nd. In particular, it is expected that a lot of snow will fall between the night of the 22nd and the morning of the 23rd. Thunder and lightning are expected in some areas.
It is expected that snow will continue until dawn on the 25th, which is Christmas day, centering on the mountain area. Higher than mid-mountainous roads such as the 5.16 Road and the 1100 Road are highly likely to become icy roads between the followingnoon of the 22nd and the morning of the 25th.
As cold air enters, the temperature also drops. The Korea Meteorological Administration predicts that it will be 2 to 7 degrees lower than normal temperatures (minimum 5 degrees, maximum 10-11 degrees) during this period. With an instantaneous wind speed of 70 km and strong winds of 90 km/h or more blowing in the mountains, the perceived temperature will be lower.
This heavy snowfall and cold wave are due to the cold air of -45 degrees Celsius located 5km above the Korean Peninsula flowing into the Korean Peninsula from the north and the snow cloud belt formed as a result.
The Korea Meteorological Administration said, “There is a possibility of cancellation or delay of flights and passenger ships due to heavy snow and strong winds continuing until the 24th, so you must check flight information in advance.” We need to prepare in advance.”
