UN General Assembly condemns Russia for food crisis… “Crisis again due to poor crops”

This year’s UN General Assembly, held face-to-face for the first time in three years, blamed Russia for causing the world food crisis to war with the heads of countries.

Although it has recently declined due to Ukraine’s grain export agreement through the Black Sea, there is a forecast that a crisis may come once more due to the sluggish crop yields around the world.

The biggest topic of discussion at the 77th UN General Assembly, which started on the 20th, was the Ukraine crisis.

There were many voices criticizing Russia for taking responsibility for the damage caused by the war and the resulting energy crisis.

This was followed by condemnation of the global food crisis.

International grain prices surged shortly following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in late February.

Over the past 12 months, wheat futures prices have risen 17%, while corn and soybeans are up 28% and 14%, respectively.

However, in July, Russia and Ukraine agreed to export grain through the Black Sea and the outlook for a global economic downturn was compounded.

But fears of a food crisis are on the rise once more.

This is because the crop harvest around the world is not good due to drought.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has cut its corn production forecast for this year by 3% from last month’s forecast.

This is an 8% decrease from last year.

It also lowered its soybean production forecast by another 3%.

To encourage cultivation, the Chinese government has raised wheat purchase prices by 24% compared to last year.

In addition, as Russia is making a move to put a brake on grain exports through the Black Sea, the renewal of the export agreement, which expires at the end of November, is also expected to be an important variable.
