As the US enacted the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) to provide tax deduction benefits, cooperation through MSP will help diversify Korea’s supply chain in the future, so Foreign Minister Park Jin will actively contribute to MSP.”
The US-led MSP started with an idea to reduce dependence on China, which dominates the core minerals.
China controls the refining market for rare earths, lithium and cobalt, which are raw materials for high-tech products, including EV batteries.
The United States plans to continue working with mineral-rich countries over the coming months to determine which projects will benefit from the Mineral Security Agreement.
