[국제]The scene of the ‘secondary street battle’ in the northwest of Kiiw… “I killed everything I saw”

[앵커]

At the beginning of the war, Russia launched a siege of the Ukrainian capital to capture Kiiu.

Reporter Jun-myung Shin personally visited the site of a street battle where the outer cities were largely destroyed in the process, but the traces of the fierce battle remained intact.

This is Bucha, a small outlying town regarding 30 kilometers northwest of Kiiwu.

The house I see behind me now has collapsed to such an extent that I can’t even tell how many stories it was originally.

Most of the buildings in a radius of several hundred meters around here have collapsed like this.

On the road, the shells were dropped, leaving deep dents at intervals of several meters.

You can feel how fierce the street fighting was.

Bucha is a transportation hub that the Russian army was trying to enter to occupy the capital Kiiu in early March, at the beginning of the war, and it was the place where an all-out war was fought with the Ukrainian forces trying to stop it.

After the Russians captured Bucha, they tortured and even massacred civilians.

Hundreds of bodies were buried in this vacant lot, including civilians killed by Russian forces.

The bodies were found in black plastic bags at the time, but it is said that there were also bodies with hands and feet tied behind their backs.

Russian forces are estimated to have killed more than 400 civilians.

At the time, it was revealed that the Russian army brutally killed even city animals, including dogs, saying, “I killed everything I might see.”

Ukraine, which recaptured Kiiu at the end of March, charged 10 Russian soldiers who tortured and massacred civilians in the then-Bucha region of war crimes.
