Putin calls himself ‘Peter the Great’ to justify invasion of Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose health has been rife, has justified the invasion of Ukraine by comparing himself to the imperial Peter the Great.

Putin emphasized that St. Petersburg, which was initially recognized as Swedish territory, became a Russian territory when Peter the Great made it the capital.

Russian President Putin met with young entrepreneurs ahead of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum to commemorate the 350th anniversary of the birth of Peter the Great.

Saint Petersburg is the home of Peter the Great and President Putin.

It is said that they reclaimed St. Petersburg, which was originally Russian territory, but was not recognized as a territory.

Putin emphasized that Peter the Great’s principle of territorial restoration is still important.

He compared himself to Peter the Great, who invaded Ukraine.

Putin has been praised for being ambitious to expand territory like Peter the Great or Stalin during his time in power.

However, President Putin, who turns 70 in October of this year, has been suspected of suffering from blood cancer and Parkinson’s disease.
