[국제]Johnson & Johnson to stop selling talc baby powder worldwide

Johnson & Johnson, a US health care company, announced on the 11th local time that it will completely suspend the worldwide sales of baby powder containing talc, which has caused a carcinogen controversy, from 2023.

According to Archyde.com and other reports, Johnson & Johnson said it had made a commercial decision to replace all baby powder products with products containing corn starch as part of its product portfolio evaluation.

Johnson & Johnson stopped selling talc baby powder in the United States and Canada in May 2020 due to a sharp drop in demand for talc baby powder, which has been the subject of numerous lawsuits due to cancer controversy.

Although Johnson & Johnson has been embroiled in more than 4,300 lawsuits related to baby powder and cosmetics made with talc, it maintains its position that its products are safe.

In addition, while announcing a policy to suspend sales of talc baby powder on the same day, the product itself maintained its position that it was safe.

Although talc is widely used as baby powder and various cosmetic materials, concerns have been raised regarding asbestos contamination because it is often distributed near asbestos, a carcinogen.
