[앵커]

A vessel to export Ukrainian grain using the Black Sea route through an international agreement is waiting for departure following completing its loading operation.

There is an expectation that the global food shortage will be alleviated if Ukrainian grain is exported in earnest, but there are analyzes that it is still unknown due to various uncertainties such as safety issues.

A Turkish national vessel has finished loading grain at the Ukrainian port of Chornomorsk off the Black Sea coast.

“We have sent a signal to our partners, including the United Nations and Turkiye, that they are ready to depart,” said Zelensky, who watched the shipment.

The Ukrainian government said it was “waiting for the UN to confirm a safe route for ships to navigate in mines.”

Ukraine, Russia, the United Nations, and Turkey agreed on the 22nd to ensure the safety of sea routes so that grains tied to Ukrainian ports can be exported to the Black Sea to solve the global food crisis.

Under the agreement, grain-carrying ships will be inspected for weapons at a joint control center opened in Istanbul, Turkey.

Three insurance companies, including Lloyd’s of London, an international association of insurers, have agreed to insure up to $50 million in insurance for ships that export grain, up to KRW 65 billion in Korean money.

When exports resume in earnest, expectations are growing that 25 million tons of grain will be supplied within this year, helping to breathe life into the global food crisis.

However, there are also observations that grain exports may fall short of expectations due to various uncertainties, including safety concerns from mines installed by Russia.
