Now, Japan is on an emergency due to a cyberattack by a group of hackers who are dissatisfied with the sanctions once morest Russia following the Ukraine crisis.

Access to the websites of the Japanese government and private companies continues to be disrupted, and the group even uploaded a video saying “Declare war on Japan.”

Correspondent Lee Kyung-ah from Tokyo reports.

This is a video uploaded by a group of pro-Russian hackers named ‘Killnet’.

The masked figure claims that Russia is not committing crimes in Ukraine.

[친러 해커 집단 ’킬넷’ 동영상 : 러시아는 유럽의 가치관과 미국이 생각해 낸 위험한 게임에서 국민을 보호하고 있습니다. 일본 정부 전체에 선전 포고합니다.]

After this video was uploaded, the Tokyo and Osaka subway homepages did not open for a while.

The group claimed that they were responsible for the failure of access to the Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications and the Digital Agency, which occurred earlier.

It is presumed to be a so-called ‘DDoS attack’ that causes system failure by sending large amounts of data.

The Japanese government said that no damage such as information leakage has been confirmed and is currently investigating the cause.

The Russian government declined to comment on the possibility that it might be involved in a cyberattack, but expressed serious concerns regarding the incident.

After the Ukraine crisis, as Japan and the United States took the lead in sanctions, Russia has taken retaliatory measures one following another.

In addition to suspending peace negotiations, we have recently unilaterally suspended measures that allow Japanese citizens to travel to and from the Kuril Islands, which are in dispute over territorial sovereignty, without a visa.

As cyber attacks become a reality amid the conflict with Russia, the Japanese government is contemplating countermeasures along with strengthening security.
