Wang Yi, Chinese Foreign Minister and State Councilor, held a press conference following meeting with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister in Guangzhou on the 22nd, a day following the ROK-US summit.
Regarding the Indo-Pacific economic framework, Wang Yi said, “I am opposed to trying to create division and confrontation. It should help the recovery of the global economy and should not undermine the stability of industrial chains.”
“If the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework becomes a political tool to safeguard the regional economic hegemony of the United States and intentionally excludes certain countries, that path is not right,” he said.
This represents the internal view that the US is trying to exclude China from the supply chain of key industries such as semiconductors through the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework.
Director Wang continued, “We are using economic means to politicize, weaponize, and ideologicalize economic issues, and whether they are using economic means to pressure regional countries to stand on one side between China and the United States. he added.
Director Wang also criticized the U.S. Indo-Pacific strategy, which was re-emerged on the occasion of the Korea-US summit, saying, “Although we are advocating the banner of freedom and openness, we are concentrating on forming a small group by forming a gang.”
“The purpose is an attempt to encircle China, and to use countries in the Asia-Pacific region as a pawn for US hegemony,” he said.
“What is particularly dangerous is that the US will take off its camouflage and provoke the Taiwan and South China Sea cards, causing chaos even in the Asia-Pacific region.”
“The so-called Indo-Pacific strategy is essentially a strategy that instigates division, a strategy that incites opposition, and a strategy that destroys peace,” he said.
Director Wang’s remarks are attracting attention because they reveal the view that the US is being used by the US strategy to contain China without naming, while the US directly names it and criticizes it harshly.
